From herbal balms and inhalers found in every Thai pharmacy to herbal teas, dietary supplements and spa and aromatherapy lines used in hotels worldwide, Thailand's wellness sector is a strong sourcing destination. Because these products sit close to health regulation, buyers should understand the categories before requesting quotes.
Know the category — it determines the rules
- Cosmetics / spa products (massage oils, balms marketed for relaxation, scrubs, soaps) — regulated as cosmetics; Thai FDA notification, GMP factory.
- Herbal products / traditional medicines (balms or inhalers with medicinal claims, herbal capsules) — regulated under Thailand's herbal product rules; different registration and claims limits.
- Dietary supplements and functional foods (capsules, powders, functional drinks) — regulated as food/supplement; Thai FDA registration, GMP/HACCP plant.
- Herbal teas and dried herbs — food; focus on origin, moisture, microbiology and pesticide residues.
The same ingredient — say turmeric or ginger — can fall into three categories depending on form and claims. Your destination market will classify it too; align with your importer or regulatory consultant early.
Popular Thai ingredients and products
Lemongrass, ginger, turmeric, butterfly pea, kaffir lime, centella (gotu kola), tamarind, moringa, plai and menthol-camphor blends for balms and inhalers. Private-label spa kits (oils, scrubs, candles) are a common hotel and e-commerce request.
Claims: be realistic
Reputable Thai manufacturers will tell you which claims they can substantiate and which markets accept them. Avoid suppliers who promise medical claims on a cosmetic or food product — this creates import and liability problems for you.
Certifications and documents
Ask for GMP (cosmetics, herbal or food GMP as applicable), HACCP/ISO 22000 for foods and supplements, Halal where relevant, organic certificates for organic herbs, certificates of analysis for each batch, and free-sale certificates if your importer needs them.
Packaging and private label
Most Thai wellness factories support private label with a range of stock packaging. Provide artwork specifications, required languages and regulatory text for your market.
