Thai Dried Fruit and Snack Suppliers: An Importer's Checklist

Dried mango, banana, durian, coconut chips, seaweed and rice snacks — Thailand produces a huge range of export-ready snacks. Use this checklist to source them safely and profitably.

Thai Dried Fruit and Snack Suppliers: An Importer's Checklist

Thai snacks travel well: dried mango and other tropical dried fruits, freeze-dried durian, coconut chips, seasoned seaweed, rice crackers, seafood snacks and potato-based chips with Thai flavours are exported to retail chains, convenience stores and e-commerce sellers worldwide. Here is what to check before you order.

1. Product form and process

For fruit, clarify sun/solar-dried, hot-air dried, freeze-dried or vacuum-fried — texture, shelf life and price differ a lot. Ask whether sugar, preservatives (e.g. sulphites) or colours are added; many markets want "no added sugar" or clean-label versions, and some markets restrict sulphites.

2. Shelf life and packaging

Confirm shelf life at ambient temperature, the packaging material (foil/zip pouches, nitrogen-flushed, retail vs. bulk), and whether the factory can print your brand. Check case size, cases per pallet and per container — snack cartons are light but bulky, so container space, not weight, is the limit.

3. Labelling for your market

Your destination's rules on ingredient lists, allergens, nutrition panels, language and date formats apply. Experienced Thai exporters will have templates for the EU, US, Middle East and ASEAN; provide your requirements before artwork starts.

4. Certifications

Look for GMP and HACCP at minimum; BRCGS/IFS/FSSC 22000 for large retailers; Halal for Muslim markets; Organic if you market organic; and lab reports for moisture, water activity, microbiology and residues where relevant.

5. Seasonality and volumes

Mango, durian and some fruits are seasonal — align your annual volume with harvest windows and ask how the supplier manages off-season supply (cold storage, frozen intermediates). Confirm minimum order per SKU and mixed-container options.

6. Samples and price structure

Request samples of each SKU, then ask for a quotation broken down by product, packaging and Incoterm (FOB or CIF). Negotiate on total landed cost, not only unit price.
