Sourcing Thai Products for the Philippines: A Practical Guide for Filipino Resellers and Distributors

Thai products have a loyal following in the Philippines — from body lotions and soaps to snacks, coffee and herbal balms. Both countries are ASEAN members, shipping routes between Bangkok and Manila are well established, and online selling has made it easier for Filipino resellers to build a business around imported Thai brands.

Regulatory basics to check

In the Philippines, cosmetics, food, supplements and some household products fall under the Food and Drug Administration (FDA Philippines). Importers and distributors generally need the appropriate licence, and products may need notification or registration before they are sold. Requirements change and depend on the product, so confirm the current rules with FDA Philippines or a licensed customs broker before you place an order. Ask the Thai supplier early for the documents you will need, such as ingredient lists and product specifications.

ASEAN origin documents

Goods traded between ASEAN countries may qualify for preferential tariffs under ASEAN agreements when they meet the rules of origin and are covered by a Certificate of Origin (Form D). Ask your supplier whether Form D can be issued for the products you buy, and check with your broker how it applies to your shipment.

Shipping from Thailand to the Philippines

  • Sea freight — full containers or shared (LCL) shipments from Bangkok or Laem Chabang to Manila or other ports; the economical option for regular volumes.
  • Air freight and courier — suited to samples and urgent, light shipments. Aerosols and some liquids have restrictions; ask your forwarder.
  • Consolidation — combining purchases from several Thai suppliers into one shipment can lower freight per item.
