Thailand has built a large Halal food export industry — canned seafood, ready meals, sauces and seasonings, snacks, rice, beverages, frozen foods and more — serving the Gulf (GCC), Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Muslim communities worldwide. For importers in these markets, Thailand offers scale, consistent quality and experienced Halal-certified factories.
How Halal certification works in Thailand
Halal certification in Thailand is issued under the Central Islamic Council of Thailand (CICOT) system, with the recognised Thai Halal logo appearing on certified products. Many importing countries and bodies recognise the Thai certificate, but recognition and additional requirements differ by destination — Malaysia (JAKIM), Indonesia (BPJPH/MUI), UAE, Saudi Arabia (SFDA) and others each have their own rules. Always confirm with your local authority or importer which certificates and accreditations are required for your product category.
Strong Thai Halal product categories
- Canned tuna, sardines and seafood
- Rice (Hom Mali, white, parboiled) and rice products
- Sauces, curry pastes, seasonings and instant noodles
- Snacks, biscuits and confectionery
- Beverages, coconut milk and coconut water
- Frozen and ready-to-eat meals
- Halal cosmetics and personal care (a growing segment)
What to include in your RFQ
Name the destination country explicitly (Halal requirements differ), the certification body recognition you need, Arabic or local-language labelling requirements, shelf life, packaging format, and whether you need private label. Request copies of the supplier's current Halal certificate, GMP/HACCP and, for large retailers, BRCGS/IFS/FSSC certificates.
Labelling and documentation
Beyond the Halal logo, GCC markets typically require Arabic labelling, production and expiry dates in the accepted format and a Halal certificate accompanying the shipment along with the health certificate and certificate of origin. Experienced Thai exporters handle this routinely — ask which markets they already ship to.
